Every weekend until October 29, 2017, the Château de Versailles welcomes you to discover the fountains of the domain in music.
Come and experience the gorgeous gardens designed by André Le Nôtre, as if you were part of Louis XIV’s court.
Tunes by Lully, Rameau or Charpentier, resound all along your path. The 55 fountains come alive in the 14 groves that form the gardens of the Castle for the greatest pleasure of all.
When the King decided to settle in Versailles, there was nothing, but a small hunting lodge. The construction of the palace took a long time, and the King deeply concerned about his image was willing to impress the court. It is therefore in the gardens that he decides to celebrate the end of the titanic works.
There was no watercourse near the place, it was necessary to build a dig to the Seine to pump water and bring it up to the place. A real technical prowess at the time.
Still, there was not enough water to let the fountains running continuously, so during the King’s daily walk, the fountains were triggered, one at a time.
Still today it is the same machinery of the last century that is used. The fountain workers open and close the fountains manually.
You can extend your enjoyment by discovering Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes / The Fountains Night Show. (every Saturday at 8.30 pm).
The fountains are sublimated by games of lights in music for almost 2 hours. The show ends with a firework, as under the greatest time of Louis XIV and his gorgeous parties.
